Q: Where can I have my skip dropped?

A: Skips can be dropped on a private property such as your drive or on the road outside your house. Skips can also be dropped at business, offices or factories. For contractors and builders, we also offer waste disposal services for customer locations.

Q: Do I need permission from the council to place a skip on the road?

A: Yes. you will need to obtain a permit from your local Council. They will charge a small fee for the skip to be placed on the road. We would be happy to arrange a skip permit for you. However, in some cases, you may have to apply for a permit yourself depending on the borough and its requirements.

Q: What is the average size of a skip?

A: Average skips range between 6 to 8 cubic yards. For big refurbishment work or for construction work we also supply roll on-off bins.

Q: What if I cannot get a skip license?

A: For skip permit problems, we offer a wait and load service, where the driver will wait while you load the skip. Please contact us for further information.

Q: Is there anything that I cannot put in a skip?

A: In accordance with environmental legislation, fridge freezers, asbestos and tyres are not permitted to be placed in a skip. However, if you do require a fridge or freezer collection, we will be happy to arrange a dedicated vehicle to dispose of these for you. Please check our Conditions of Hire

Q: Are there any skip loading requirements?

A: Skips must be level-loaded at all times to ensure safety and that rubbish remains contained whilst in transit. Please check our Conditions of Hire

Q: How long can I keep a skip?

A: The price is the same whether you have the skip for one day or seven days, until the skip is either full or you require a collection or an exchange. This can be extended at your request.

Q: How do I book a skip?

A: You can call us at 01262 672591 to arrange deliveries, collections and exchanges of skips.

Q: How much notice do I need to give?

A: 24 hour notice is usually required for deliveries, collections and exchanges. However, if you call us before 9:00 am, we can offer same day service for local areas. We can guarantee a next day service for either the morning or afternoon. For people who have a tight schedule, we will do our utmost to work around your requirements.

Q: What happens with my waste after it is taken away in a skip?

A: Skips are taken back to our fully licensed waste transfer station where we aim to recycle 80% of all waste to ensure that the minimum amount of rubbish goes to landfill.

Q: Will I have space?

A: If you can fit a car on your driveway then a skip should fit on there also. The average skip is about the size of a small car with no roof.

For soil and clay the biggest size would be an 8yard as the bigger sizes would not be able to cope with weight resulting in the vehicle potentially being over weight.

We cannot accept responsibility for any damage caused if our vehicle is directed off the public highway.

We do not accept fridges TVs monitors’ paints solvents liquids car/ commercial vehicle batteries, asbestos, car/ commercial tyres.

Q: How do I pay?

A: We accept all major credit cards with the exception of Amex. Payment is taken prior to delivery.

Q: Account holders

A: If you wish to hire on a regular basis with up to 30 days credit and then ask about our same day account opening (01262 672591) or fill in out online and we will contact you as soon as possible.

Enviromental Protection Act 1990

Waste Management Licensing Regulations 1994
(Now Environmental Permitting)

In 1994, under the authority granted by this Act, a new waste licensing system was introduced to replace the provisions of the Control of Pollution Act 1974. The new system covers the depositing, recovery and disposal of all controlled wastes. The term 'controlled wastes' covers household, commercial and industrial wastes, either solid or liquid. There are certain exemptions from the need for a licence and most individuals, for example those disposing of their personal garden waste, would normally be exempted.

To hold a licence, applicants must demonstrate to the authority that they are a "fit and proper person". Some applicants, for example those wishing to run a new site, may also have to demonstrate "technical competence" by holding a Waste Management Industry Training and Advisory Board (WAMITAB) certificate.

Section 34 of the Act imposes a new Duty of Care on persons who produce, import, carry, keep, treat or dispose of controlled wastes. Those subject to the Duty of Care must seek to:
  • prevent the escape of waste

  • ensure waste is only transferred to an "authorised person" or to a person for "authorised transport purposes" as described in the Act

  • ensure, during transfer of waste, that a written description of the waste, sufficient to avoid committing an offence under the Act, accompanies the waste

  • prevent persons disposing of, treating or storing controlled waste either without a licence, in breach of a licence condition or in a manner likely to cause pollution or harm to health.

The Act also sets out the duties of Waste Regulation Authorities and Waste Collection Authorities. Under the Act, Waste Regulation Authorities are required to produce a Waste Management Plan and Waste Collection Authorities a Waste Recycling Plan.

Special Waste Regulations 1996

This updates the Control of Pollution (Special Waste) Regulations 1980 on defining special wastes in order to conform to EU legislation on hazardous wastes. The regulations also detail the consignment note system that requires waste to be accompanied by a note from the point of production to disposal.

Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005

Until 15 July 2005, the Hazardous Waste Directive was transposed in England by the Special Waste Regulations 1996 (as amended). From 16 July the Directive is transposed by the Hazardous waste (England and Wales) Regulations 2005 and the List of Waste (England) Regulations.

While the Special Waste regime was in force in the UK, the European Commission revised its list of hazardous waste and incorporated it into the European Waste Catalogue. The revised list includes a number of waste streams not previously considered to be hazardous, including televisions, computer monitors, fluorescent lighting and end-of-life vehicles.

Defra consulted on new Hazardous Waste Regulations for England in July 2004, and the new Regulations based on the consultation responses come into force on 16 July 2005. The new regime includes a requirement for most producers of hazardous waste to notify their premises to the Environment Agency. The facility to notify premises has been available from April 2005.

Defra published interim guidance on premises notification in January 2005.

What is a Site Waste Management Plan (SWMP)

New regulations coming into force in April 2008 mean that any construction project in England costing over £300k (be it for new build, maintenance, alteration or installation/removal of services such as sewerage, water) will need a Site Waste Management Plan (SWMP).
